Clients across India
Websites, ads and AI automation for businesses across India From a team in Guwahati that shares your working day and builds for Indian rules
Hiring an agency in another city comes down to two things: will they understand how your customers pay and message, and will the work follow Indian law? This page covers what’s particular to clients elsewhere in India, from UPI and rupee invoices to the DPDP Act, the e-commerce rules and business SMS.
The short answer
What is it like to work with Smart Web Labs from elsewhere in India?
Much like working with an agency in your own city, minus the travel. We share your time zone and most of your holidays, quote and invoice in rupees, and take payment by bank transfer or UPI. Forms, stores and automations are built around Indian rules, from consent notices under the DPDP Act to TRAI’s registration for business SMS.

Working together
How does working with a Guwahati team feel from another city?
Much the same as working with a team down the road, apart from where meetings happen. We keep your hours, so calls, reviews and quick questions fit the normal working day. Video calls replace site visits, and if you’re ever in Guwahati, you’re welcome at our office at Beltola Tiniali.
-
Hours
One working day
There’s no time difference to manage. A question sent in the morning can usually be settled the same day, and a call can be booked for the same afternoon.
-
Holidays
Shared, mostly
National holidays are the same for both of us. Regional festivals differ, such as Bihu here and Pongal or Onam elsewhere, so you get our calendar at kick-off and we plan around yours.
-
Language
English by default
We write and work in English. If your customers read or search in another language, we plan for it from the start and say plainly what we can deliver ourselves and what needs a native writer.
Payment
How do quotes, invoices and payment work?
In rupees, in stages. The proposal sets the price and the payment stages, and each invoice is in rupees with any GST that applies shown separately. You can pay by bank transfer or UPI, and ad spend is always billed to you directly by Google or Meta.
-
Rupee pricing
Everything is quoted and invoiced in rupees, so there are no exchange rates or international transfer charges to think about.
-
Bank transfer or UPI
Pay by NEFT, RTGS, IMPS or UPI. As with any supplier, check a change of bank details by phone before you pay.
-
Instalments tied to work
Each instalment is linked to something you can see, such as approved designs or a live campaign, so you always know what you’re paying for.
Phones and networks
How do you build for the phones and connections Indian customers use?
For the devices and networks your customers really have, not the ones in an office. Every page gets a size budget and is tested under the conditions of a mid-range phone on a slowed mobile connection, and pages in Indian scripts get fonts that cover them without making the page heavy.

-
Size budgets
This site’s pages weigh under 150 KB on a first visit, fonts included. Client sites get a budget set at the start and checked before launch.
-
Indian scripts
Devanagari, Bengali–Assamese and other Indian scripts need fonts of their own. We load only the parts of a font a page needs, so a bilingual page stays quick.
-
.in or .com
A .in address tells visitors at a glance that you’re an Indian business; .com travels better if you also sell abroad. Whichever you choose is registered in your name.

Data protection
What does the DPDP Act mean for your website and automations?
The Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023 sets the rules for handling personal data in India, and the DPDP Rules notified on 17 November 2025 phase in its main duties over 18 months. For a website, that means clear consent notices on forms, collecting only what you need and a plan for breaches.
-
Consent
Notices people can understand
The Rules call for clear consent notices that explain the specific purpose for collecting personal data. Every form we build says what it collects and why, in plain words, next to where it’s asked for.
-
Minimum
Only what the job needs
An enquiry form asks for a name, a way to reply and the question. Asking for more, such as a date of birth, needs a reason you can explain to the person filling it in.
-
Breaches
Knowing what you hold
The Rules also require breaches to be reported. That’s far easier when you know which systems hold personal data and who can reach them, which we write down at handover.
You remain the business that decides why data is collected, so your legal adviser has the final word on how the Act applies to you. Our part is to make the site and automations easy to keep compliant.
Online stores
Which rules apply to an online store selling in India?
Three sets matter most, and each is easier to build in from the first design than to add after launch. The Consumer Protection (E-Commerce) Rules, 2020 decide what a store must tell buyers, the Legal Metrology rules decide what each product listing shows, and RBI rules decide what may happen to card details.
-
Disclosures
What buyers must be told
The E-Commerce Rules require stores to show who the seller is, how returns, refunds, exchanges and delivery work, which payment methods are accepted and how to raise a complaint with a grievance officer. Each gets a clear page, linked from checkout. From 1 January 2027, an amendment notified in September 2026 also requires any discount to show the lowest price of the previous 30 days beside the new one.
-
Listings
Product declarations
Packaged goods sold online must show the declarations the Legal Metrology rules require, such as the maker’s name and address, the net quantity and the retail sale price. Product templates get a field for each, so none is forgotten.
-
Cards
No stored card numbers
Under RBI’s restriction on storing card data, merchants may not keep customers’ card numbers; repeat payments use tokens instead. We set stores up so card details only ever reach the payment gateway.
-
Payments
Familiar ways to pay
UPI, cards, net banking and, where it suits the business, cash on delivery, through gateways such as Razorpay or PayU, with the gateway account in your name.
SMS and WhatsApp
What rules apply to business SMS and WhatsApp in India?
Different ones for each channel. Business SMS runs on TRAI’s registration system, and WhatsApp runs on Meta’s rules and rates. Follow-up automations for Indian customers are built around both, so messages arrive, nothing gets blocked along the way and nobody hears from you without agreeing to it.
-
SMS: register first
TRAI’s rules require a business to register as a principal entity, get a sender header and register its message and consent templates before sending commercial SMS. We set that up, or use your existing registration.
-
WhatsApp: rates in rupees
Meta charges per message, at rates that depend on the recipient’s country and the template’s purpose, and since January 2026 it has been moving India-based businesses to billing in rupees. We estimate your monthly messaging cost before you commit.
-
Consent on both
Promotional messages go only to people who agreed to receive them, and every follow-up offers a simple way to stop.

Ads in India
What’s different about Google and Meta ads in India?
The platforms work the same way everywhere, but billing and targeting have Indian details. Both add GST to advertising billed in India, and both can aim a campaign at a state, a city or a set distance around your premises, so a shop in one city doesn’t pay to reach the whole country.
-
GST on ad spend
Add your GSTIN, your GST registration number, to each ad account, as Google’s and Meta’s help pages explain, so it appears on their invoices. Your accountant needs it there to claim any input tax credit.
-
Chats as well as forms
Meta’s click-to-WhatsApp ads open a chat with your business instead of a form. Chats, calls and form enquiries are all traced back to the ad that started them, so spend is judged on results, not clicks.
-
Ads in your customers’ language
Where customers search in Hindi, Assamese or another language, campaigns can run in it too, and a fluent speaker writes or checks every ad before it goes live.
Several cities
How do you market a business with branches in more than one city?
City by city, under one plan. A branch in Shillong and one in Kolkata compete with different businesses, for customers who search in different ways, so each gets its own listing and page. The brand, the tracking and the reporting stay together, so you can still see the whole business at once.
-
A profile for each branch
Every location with its own premises and staff gets its own Google Business Profile, verified with Google, with its own address, PIN code, hours, phone number and reviews.
-
A page for each city
Each branch gets a page with details only it has, such as directions, the team and the services offered there. Pages that only swap the city name are left out, because Google’s spam policies treat them as doorways.
-
One report across them
Calls, enquiries and sales are reported branch by branch and as a whole, so budget can move to the cities where it works best.

What we do
What do we do for businesses across India?
All three services, set up for Indian customers: stores that take UPI, campaigns aimed at a state, a city or the area around your premises, and automations that run on WhatsApp, where your customers may already be messaging you. Each service page has the full details of what’s included.
-
01 / Build
Websites
Sites and stores built for mid-range phones and patchy connections, with UPI and card checkout and the policy pages Indian rules require.
-
02 / Grow
Ads and search
Google and Meta campaigns aimed at a state, a city or the area around your premises, plus local SEO for every branch, each with its own Business Profile.
-
03 / Automate
Automation
WhatsApp assistants on Meta’s official platform, SMS follow-ups through registered templates, and connections to the CRM or spreadsheet you already use.
Fit
Which Indian businesses do we suit best?
Businesses that want one team for the site, the campaigns and the follow-up, and are happy to work over video calls, WhatsApp and email. What matters more than distance is someone on your side who can answer questions and approve work within a day or two.
-
A good fit
Shops and service firms growing beyond their first city, online stores selling across India, and manufacturers or wholesalers looking for business buyers who search before they call.
-
Probably not the right fit
A launch date too close to set up payments, policy pages and consent properly, or work that needs someone at your premises every week.
Questions
Questions from businesses across India
What clients elsewhere in India ask before working with a Guwahati team: the North-East, festival seasons, who is responsible for data protection, payment gateways, languages and how soon work can start.
Do you work with businesses in other North-East states?
Yes. Being in Guwahati makes the North-East home ground: businesses in Meghalaya, Arunachal Pradesh, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, Tripura and Sikkim can meet us more easily than most, and the rest of the work happens remotely.
How do festival seasons affect campaigns?
Peak seasons such as Diwali, and regional ones such as Bihu or Durga Puja, can bring more searches and more competition for ad space. We plan budgets and creative for them weeks ahead rather than reacting on the day.
Who is responsible for DPDP compliance, you or us?
You are, as the business that decides why data is collected. We build forms, stores and automations so that complying is straightforward, and document how data flows through them.
Can you work with our existing payment gateway account?
Yes. The gateway account stays in your name; we connect it to the site, test real payments and refunds before launch, and hand back the access when we’re done.
Will the site work on slow mobile connections?
That’s what it’s built for. Pages are tested over a deliberately slowed connection on an ordinary phone, and anything that doesn’t need to load straight away waits until it’s needed.
Can the site be in Hindi or Assamese as well as English?
Yes. The site is set up for more than one language from the start, with the right fonts and language tags, and every page in a second language is written or checked by a native speaker before launch.
Do you need to visit our premises?
Rarely. A video call and the photos and documents you already have cover most projects. Where new photographs would help, we write a shot list for a local photographer of your choosing.
How soon can work start?
Usually within one to three weeks of approval. Because we share a time zone, kick-off can happen the day after you sign, as soon as the account invitations arrive.
